It may be normal, or it may be a sign of control panel getting flaky. All Whirlpool dishwashers tend to have serious problems with the control panel, as it's very cheaply made and not shielded very well from water damage! I would start saving my shekels and plan to buy a good dishwasher, like a Bosch.It will cost twice as much, but it actually cleans the dishes, it's silent, and overall it's sooo much better.
