Need wide angle lens suggestion for Canon EOS XT For my Canon EOS XT, I have a good zoom lens, portrait lens and all-around lens but need a good wide angle lens for family and group shots. Not looking to break the bank but want a good quality lens that will last for years. Asked by ElDroc 37 months ago Similar questions: wide angle lens suggestion Canon EOS XT Arts > Photography.

A few options Well w/o braking the bank I have 2 I would suggest. First is the Canon 17-40mm F4 L series. This is from their L glass line, whihc is made to give professional grade performance.

This is the lower end of the price range for L glass. The higher end in a wide Angle woudl be the 16-35 F2.8 L and its more than 2x the price of the 17-40. I prefer the 17-40 and find it sharper at the full wide than the 16-35.

I use to won both, and now own and use the 17-40 only! It will run you new around $650-699. Its a great lens and I love it.

The other one I would suggest is a lot less in price but still great quality. Its made by Tamorn. Its in their SP line, which is thier prograde line.

Its not as sharp as the Canon L series, but its still very good and a lot better than any other lens in the market in its price range. Its the 17-50 F2.8 I have suggested it to many of those I tutor as sell as several students I know and they all love it, both the Canon and nikon users. And at around $449 its a nice savings.

Don't let anyone tell you that you need IS for a wide angle, as they are full of it if they do. IS will nto help you much under a focal range of 70-75mm. Keep in mind the golden rule.

Shutter speed shoudl be about 1/focal length. So at a focal length of 20mm that is an exposure of 1/20 of a sec, and that is pretty slow. And if you have blur in it its often form the subject moving and IS will not help with that.

Also the Tamron is a F 2.8 so it allows for use in lower light and indoor settings more easily. I do suggest you get a good UV filter to go on it. Go with either B+W or Heliopan, as those are the ONLY 2 that use Ground optical grade glass in thier filters.

Also a good (same brand suggestions) Circ Polarizer will be helpful for your landscape shooting. You can get a step down ring for the filter to use on onther lenses if they have a small filter size. Hope this helps.

Good Luck and happy shooting. BTW you might want to consider an upgrade to a 40D or 50D or even an xti as you will see a big image improvement as compared to the xt. The new 50D is great and the digital noise on its 1600 iso will be about that of the old rebel xt at 400 iso.

Canon 17-40 is the best Canon lens for the $$$ The Canon 17-40 F4 L series is the best Canon lens for the $. That would be my #1 choice. #2 is the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 SP lens.

Its really good, but I like the Canon L a tad more. But the Tamron is about $200 Less at around $450. Both are very good lenses, and should serve you well.

I have a 30D and I love the 17-40 on it, but I have also used my friends Tamron on it as well and its nice too. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
