Open Thread: Tampa Town Hall Protests over health care reform?

Ok I am going to be commenting on the video while watching. Town Hall Meeting with Kathy Castor (Inside) Oh my goodness this is crazy! So much noise!

How can anyone listen. I understand that they are upset, but the people should not have acted this way. It sounded like they wanted to attack her.

I would have been a little scared if I was the speaker. She could not even speak, it seemed like everyone there was just there to put down the thought. I thought it was nice that some people where trying to tell people to just let the lady talk.

Everyone was acting like children! Goodness. Tampa Town Hall Outside Doors Video Goodness, “Hear our voice.

Lol then someone says “I can hear you. I understand that no one likes the idea of the health care. I don’t like it either. At least the people outside the Doors were not being so bad.

But when the doors were shut, I thought it was a little messed up, it was just as bad inside and it is outside. How are the people outside supposed to know what is going on. But the fire code does need to be followed.

But if it did have to do to the fire code, they should have put the meeting on hold and moved it to a bigger building. Everyone has a right to hear the public meeting. Kathy Castor Town Hall Meeting (Inside part 2) Finally they are letting the lady talk.

Anyways in general, I think it was unfair that the people had the doors shut on them, they had a right to be there. Honestly the meeting should have been put on hold, and them moved to a bigger room, or at least put on TV monitors in a different area so people could still listen to what was going on. Even though I am sure most of the people would have liked to be able to see the whole thing in person, so their voices could possible be heard.

. I watched the videos and have read some articles and this is my take on the event. I believe the meeting was open so anyone could attend.

There were more people in attendance that they planned on having and did not have the adequate room for. The crowd in the room seems to be more than the speaker could handle. To me when the crowd outside started getting unruly and were drowning out the inside, all because they wanted to be heard also, nobody really knew what to do.

I saw takes from the clip where a security officer stated something about room occupancy. In my opinion being an open meeting should have allowed any and everyone in and closing the doors would not be proper. But for security reasons I think closing the doors was the right thing to do.

I have a little security background I learned from my military days. I think that since both crowds were unruly and the outside crowd seemed to be more so, separating the crowds made them easier to control and they did not end up with a larger crowd of unruly people in a space that wasn't designed for that amount of people. Pushing and shoving would have began and that would have been the spark needed for people to get hurt.

I believe that the instant the speaker realized that there were more people than bargained for and they were being unruly she should have immediately canceled the meeting and made a better attempt at planning for a new meeting. Defuse the situation and confront it again when you have better and fairer control so everyone can participate. My opinion.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
