It sounds great on a recruiting poster, but it is just not true. Not a single real grunt will tell you that every Marine is a rifleman. 3 weeks of MCT at the beginning of your career does not make you an infantryman.
Qualifying on the rifle range once a year does not make you a rifleman. Ask any random non-infantry Marine how to do a fire plan sketch or a range card, emplace a claymore, conduct headspace and timing on a .50 cal or fire an AT-4 and they will have no clue. It is a recruiting slogan, pure and simple.
No one in the Marine Corps has a second MOS of 0311, except those 0311's that were promoted to SSgt and beyond and are now 0369's.
No that's saying every Marine in a non infantry MOS regardless of paygrade if on the ground if needed could use their assigned weapon engage and kill the enemy. That doesn't make every Marine an infantryman a clerk or a cook is not going shoot better than an infantry grunt. Nor are they going to do infantry related tasks and drills with the same level of skill or proficiency.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
