Should people be allowed to sell some of their own body parts at will, if it would not otherwise complicate their future health?

I'm very torn on this. On the one hand, people sell their reproductive cells all the time, and apparently donating eggs can net you up to $10,000. That's never been illegal, to the best of my knowledge, and it seems to be working okay for everyone.

On the other hand, no one NEEDS eggs and sperm. They want them. When it comes to something like a kidney, someone needs that to live.

Opening organs up to the free market means the richest will get them, not the people most in need. That in and of itself seems to make the entire thing pretty unethical. Poor people would never be able to compete, and the number of people willing to give organs for free would probably drop quite a bit.

I think many families would cave when it came time to decide what to do with organs of their newly dead loved ones as well. Frankly, I'm sure a lot of organs are sold, as it is. If you have a ton of money, what's to stop you from making someone a generous "gift" after they donate an organ to you?

That's perfectly legal. I think the government should do what it can to stop the sale of body parts if the recipient needs the part to live. That should be a level playing field.

If the recipient just happens to want something, like hair to transplant, then sure, let vanity go to the highest bidder.

It is unethical to put a price on body parts. People should not be allowed to selll their own body parts at will. My reasoning on this is similar to the reasoning of the people who made split work shifts illegal: if the person has a choice, then the person can be pressured into making that choice the way someone with economical or emotional power over them wants them to choose.

I think so. Admittedly there are many folks out there that need body parts that aren't on top of the donor list. Removing those with the means to buy there own (at there own choice) is a logical way to move poor people up that list while spreading the wealth to people who are willing to donate body parts while still alive to do so.

I can see how it would have to be highly regulated though to avoid people stealing body parts to sell. In short, it's your body.. You can sell it as a prostitute in many areas legally, why not literally sell it and actually do some good?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
