Trying to find a fantasy series I once read, (bonding with birds and city life next to old times) anyone know it?

The book begins in the Old times with someone still unbonded to a bird (not sure wether it was a falcon or an eagle) the magic they use has a certain colour for every magician and can be channeled through some kind of crystal. Upon bonding with the bird the magic grows stronger.In this book there is a world next to the 'old' world that has advanced into city life. The people from the city world are starting to conquer the old world and the magicians from this world try to prevent his.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
