I would suggest looking at your present furnature, or pictures in your home and making one of them 'pop' by selecting the paint for the wall to match a color in/of the peice. The floor will look good no matter what, just don't go to dark. Have you considered doing just an accent wall, and an off white but not tan, color for the other walls?

The accent wall could be really bold, and a light blue, or bold lavender would be perfect for it with the cherry wood. I did this in my home, I chose a pale greenish color that paired nicely with the oak floor for the accent, that also happened to be a present color in a very large antique painting. I painted off white on the rest of the room.
