Tay Sachs is caused by a recessive gene that is inherited from both the mother and father. People with Tay Sachs lack an enzyme, which causes brain problems.

Tay sachs disease is commonly found in people of Jewish decent. Since it is hereditary and one of the first of its kind to ever promote hereditary testing in pregnant women. When a embryo is formed it will receive a gene born from their mother and father.
