What do you do to get out of an entertainment rut?

Say you find yourself always going to dinner and the movies when you go out. You want a change, so what else would you do for your next night out? I'm thinking about date-type activities for a couple to do.

Usually we go for a walk I really like to walk and live in a large city, so if we're in a rut we go for a long walk. We're both kind of picky eaters, so we walk until we find a place we can agree on to eat. The walk and talking during the walk, not the meal out, is really the focus of that particular project.

Since we don't start with a destination, we just kind of go where our feet take us. You can find all sorts of great new places (or horrifying ones! ) that way.

If not that, we might go see a local play. I once dragged him to volunteer with me. We cook together fairly often (which is fabulous).

Find a lesson you'd like to do together like a dance class or crafting class or beer/wine making class or whatever. Find some music to listen to - a bar with a live band, say. Get really dressed up for no reason.

Lots of choices... Picnic in the park (or on the family room floor, weather depending) Take a ballroom dancing class, then go you can do 'dinner & dancing' Dinner and a play/theater Overnight camping trip (or cabin rental) Overnight at a bed&breakfast Concerts - Rock, classical, opera - whatever your taste Sports events Stay home and barbecue Join a billiards or darts club Join a book club .

Depends It depends on what’s available in your area but some obvious choices would be: Theater: Most urban and suburban areas have local theater groups performing in small theaters, schools or concert halls. They may not be Broadway quality (although some are, as in Hartford or Minneapolis) but they can make for a fun night out. One of the most enjoyable theatrical productions I ever attended was an amateur production of "Kiss Me Kate" in the basement of a retail building in Ogunquit, Maine.

Music: You don't need to pay big bucks for big name concerts. There are zillions of very good musicians playing coffee houses, hotels, church halls, bars and restaurants. One of the best guitar players in the world (Carl Peachey) plays only in bars in Key West, Florida.

Local high schools and colleges may have excellent music programs. One of the best high school jazz programs in the world is at Hall High School in the next town over from me in West Hartford, Connecticut. You can usually find them on your local municipal website or "what's happening" section of your newspaper.

Pick a genre and go spend an evening listening to people who play because they enjoy it, not for the big paycheck. Festivals: Lots of them around from Music to History to Ethic Heritage to Food. There are Jazz, Blues and Classical fests all over.

There's probably an Irish, Scottish or Italian Festival within driving distance. Look for the Society for Creative Anachronism Medieval fests or a Revolutionary War or Civil War re-enactment. Head to California for the Gilroy Garlic Fest or New Mexico when the Chile Pepper crop comes in.

There are food fests everywhere.

I'm guessing that everyone's going to suggest dancing, museums, roller-skating, sports events, and the like, so i'll ..... hope that your definition of "date-type" things is elastic enough to include a suggestion that i'm reasonably certain no one else will make: help serve dinner at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. It's time spent together that will help you feel that your couplehood is a positive force in society.

I think mini putting is fun if you have the right place. They built a new mini put place in Rockford and it was a lot of fun to go to. I could see going there a couple of times a summer.

My girlfriend and her husband did moonlight bowling for fun.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
