What is the best activity to play with your children that is both educational and fun?

I'm not a parent, but I know my sister used to get her kids involved in a number of activities at home during the summer that they loved.

One involved writing their own newspaper. They had to think up stories to write, interview people, research a topic, or just get creative. They compiled the stories and handwrote them, published the paper, and sent it to relatives.

Later they did it on a computer when they were a bit older.

They also wrote plays, acted them out, and filmed them with the family camcorder. Again we enjoyed them with the entire family at gatherings.

Writing, grammar, spelling, creativity, problem solving, etc. Were involved.

A couple of things, depending on their age. We used to clean out the kitchen cupboards and set up a grocery store. They learn prices, adding, get to play store and learn how to act when taking care of customers.

We had a ball doing that!

Playing library with all of their books works well to, they can alphabetize them, make cards and be librarians.

But parents have to be prepared to play too! :-).

1. Give them a long word, and ask them to make as many words as possible from it.

2. Give them any 3 alphabets, and ask them to write as many words as possible from each alphabet.

3. Ask them to write down the capital cities of each country, and each state .

These things will make them grow intelligently.

My opinion is that I would let the kids have break from academics during the summer. In my opinion they do better when they have a breather and then they start fresh next fall.

Maybe not very educational but here it is: let them play theater. Let them make up their own stories and create the performance. They will have an outlet for imagination, use words and have fun.

Most boardgames (Like Monopoly) are very good. Let the kids do the mathematical stuff (like moving, calculating rent, etc) and be patient with them.

Activities that revolves around day to day to common objects will be great help for them. You can look at arvindguptatoys.com/toys.html. If you need some simple exercises but engage them in fun and learning ways you can download our free activity books for kids miyav.in/free-activity-book-for-children.ht.

I would go with board games. Gamewright and thinkfun have some great games. Also get out some old family photos and have your kids creative write what they think was going on.

Or maybe what they wished the picture was about. Then your basics, like cooking for math, reading for fun, some movies that maybe have some historical significance. I have netflix streaming and my children love the show Liberty Kids.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
