Michael Pollan Wrote two good ones I have recently read, the best being "The Omnivore’s Dilemma", a thoughtful but non-preachy treatise on where our food comes from in the USA. I also quite liked his "Botany of Desire". The Color of Water by James McBride The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to s White Mother by James McBride is a very profound story. Mr. McBride chronicles the life of his mother a white Jewish woman who fell in love with the 2 black men she married and the 12 children she raised under very difficult circumstances. Ruth Jordan was the daughter of abusive Orthodox Jewish Rabbi who fell in love with a black man who she helped establish an all-black Baptist church in Harlem.
She experienced prejudice and poverty but never gave up. She had 8 children with the author's father before he died. She married another black man and had another 4 children.
Ruth Jordan was a strict but loving parent who saw to it all her children had a good education. All 12 of her children graduated from college. Mr McBride does not try to make his mother into a saint but he clearly shows how she was able to overcome racial prejudice and be a wonderful parent.

The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural story of Four Meals by Michael Pollan I just finished reading this book last week and I’m still reeling from it. It’s a long hard look at the food industry and food chain in American and how the poor health of the people of America can be traced back to the industrialization of our food supply. The facts the Pollan uncovers are eye-opening and once you’ve read it, you can’t help but take a second look at what you’re putting into your mouth.
Should be required reading for all Americans. I’ve also read his other book - "In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto" - which is equally interesting. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
