Genius...flat out genius. How many people even knew the VMA awards were even on? Or, who was up for Best Female Video?
Or for that matter, outside of her fan base or a passing familiarity, who Taylor Swift even was? How many people know now? What was the jump in viewership for the awards show between the East coast broadcast and the West coast broadcast?
The numbers aren't out yet, but I'm sure a significant increase occurred. How fast did people hear about the incident off the various internet social media? How many blog posts have been written about the incident?
It was the number one Twitter trend of the night. Hell, within 30 seconds of the incident 5,000 tweets had been posted. Just by the halfway point of the show, that number had increased by a factor of 10!
I mean, this meme went viral in less than an hour, internet mashups appeared before the west coast show even ended...marketers would cut their pinkies off for exposure like this. The numerous videos on Youtube (before being pulled by viacom) ranged from 100,000 to 3 frick'n million views in a couple of days. Google news shows at least 6,000 articles about the incident.
Google trends shows an unbelievable spike for Kanye, Taylor searches the next day. And I haven't even begun to mention the televison coverage...The President even made a comment...this thing just took the popular culture by storm. If the devil didn't exist we would have to create him...i.e.
, If it wasn't staged, it should have been...and the guy who came up with it should have gotten a promotion and a raise and a car...(BTW did you know that that Kanye and Taylor have something in common--a booking agent...in fact, the same agent who "engineered" a Kanye/50cent feud to push sales not too long ago) Who won? Everyone knows Kanye can be a jerk (look at caitw's comment). He's not really gonna lose many fans, and may even gain some in his contrition.
Taylor Swift (who I think, even if it was staged, had no idea what was going on...her reaction seemed too sincere) just opened up a massive market of listeners pre-conditioned to be sympathetic to her. MTV became news again. Beyonce comes off as the noble diva.
Hell, even Leno got in on the action by posting 18 million viewers his first night back (in which Kanye was booked). Who lost? Umm...maybe th public as a whole, but even they got to be entertained/outraged for a moment, which is all they tend to look for anyway (it is just the MTV Video awards of all things, if you're looking for culture you've failed before you've begun).
I work in realspace and internet marketing and staged or not, this was the epitome of viral marketing...just genius... ronin.
It was classless and uncalled for. I don't care for Taylor Swift's singing or music in any way, but that was her moment to speak after winning and award. He should have the decency and respect to let her complete her acceptance speech.
He's a classless human being.
I believe he has an inferiority complex. This is not the first time he bursts out like this and I recall interviews in the past where he speaks about how hard he worked to get to the top, and also the role of his mother in his life, after his parents got divorced. He got in a few disputes and legal troubles after his mothers sudden death in 2007.In my opinion, he's just trying to be in the spotlight, whatever it takes.
He's also very aggressive about the race issues, so the outburst could be related to that as well.
When the winner was announced and he was not named, he went up on stage and argued he should have won. Or perhaps it was his temper tantrum when Britney Spears opened up for the VMA's in 2007. He thought he was a perfect match for the gig, yet when Britney was chosen, he suggested it was about race.
Oh, I know. It's about the VMA's from this year when he interrupted Taylor Swift to proclaim his opinion that Beyonce should have won the award. What's unfortunate is -- there is a horrible pattern with Kanye West.
Maybe he likes to be in the spotlight? Maybe he just wants to be heard. However, I think his opinions should be kept for a time or outlet more appropriate.
Would Kanye appreciate it if someone came on stage during his moment and felt the need to say how much better someone else is? I highly doubt it. There are many talented artists out there who are deserving of being recognized.
According to Jay-Z, Kayne is just "super passionate" in regards to the way he feels -- which is fine, however, I do believe Beyonce (graciously) received an award and what she deserved that night. In due time, perhaps Kanye will receive as much as he deserves as well. Regardless of what outburst, the majority of what Kanye says or does is controversial, and in my opinion, a little selfish.
I think he is a drunk, untalented, racist who needs to go to rehab first, and when he becomes sober have unending counceling sessions with a physciatrist. Just my honest opinion.
Simple, I think he is a bit of a jerk. There is a time and a place for everything, he should have just posted his opinion on his blog if he felt strongly about it.
Well personally, I think it was just rude. I mean if a rap "artist" was on stage accepting an award, and a country singer came out and said that lets say "Tim McGraw" had the best whatever of all time, how do you think it wuld have been seen? It is always like this, it will blow over just as always but if the tables were turned, we would probbaly have about 7 angry mobs formed...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
