Where does the phrase "Shitting in high cotton" come from. What on earth does it mean?

There is both the term "high cotton" and "low cotton" with a slightly different view point from urban dictionary. phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/35/message... Since Moving to the Deep South a few months ago, I have found many businesses with the term "high cotton" in their name.

It is a southern term "we got it made" this means that they have enough cotton that is high enough for them to take a crap in and be hidden. Another definition is that cotton is very soft and feels good for wiping and because cotton can grow very tall, that term means that there is plenty of cotton to be used after a crap. The sorce below is pretty good!

You can also say "Walking in high cotton" if you want a cleaner version. It means things are going very good for you. Think of a cotton farmer.

As a southern girl, I can confirm what everyone else has said here: it is a phrase that means you are doing well and you have got it made. I hear it more often as "walking in high cotton. " There is even an Alabama song of that name that explains the phrase pretty well.

When I was growing up in the Upper South, the phrase "shitting in tall cotton" seemed to have 2 possible meanings: 1) Having it made; they've got it made (more common) 2) Getting away with something (less common).

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
