Most people in the US do not discriminate against Catholics. Those who do have a tendency to discriminate against Jews and Muslims, too, and to discriminate against anyone who isn't a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. In fact, the UK had some real legal prohibitions against Catholics, something the US did not, and it still has a few.
A Catholic cannot inherit the throne, the monarch can't be married to a Catholic, and heirs to the throne can't mary Catholics without losing their places in the line of succession. We don't have any laws that prohibit our head of state from being Catholic or marrying one.
I sympathise with what you are saying. Jehovah's Witnesses didn't serve in any capacity to the Nazis. In fact our total neutrality to politics and warfare sent our brothers and sisters to the concentration camps.
On the allied side they were incarcerated for their neutrality. Our neutrality was in obedience to Jesus Christ to love neighbour and enemy. If we only loves those of our own nation really what reward would we have?
(Matthew 5:43-46) “YOU heard that it was said, ‘You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ However, I say to YOU: Continue to love YOUR enemies and to pray for those persecuting YOU; that YOU may prove yourselves sons of YOUR Father who is in the heavens, since he makes his sun rise upon wicked people and good and makes it rain upon righteous people and unrighteous. For if YOU love those loving YOU, what reward do YOU have?
Our battle was not against humans but evil spirits whom Satan is the world ruler (2 Cor 4:4) (Ephesians 6:12-13) ...because we have a wrestling, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places. Yet even today we suffer persecution for our neutrality when at the same time many blame religion for it's participation in violence and wars.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
