Why do most religious groups these days find it necessary to scare people about the coming doomsday?

Fear drives us to do many things in life. Get an education so we can survive. Find someone to be with so we won't be alone.

Find some form of escapism so we can hide the pain. This is not confined to religion. Fear can make us do the wrong thing. It can also make us do the right thing.

But the Bible says when you start doing the right thing that fear is turned into love. , 1 John 4:18Ego and greed are not exclusive to religion either. As humans we are all suseptable to these addictions. Agreed Christians should be held to a higher standard, but we are human and it is a process to die to yourself and live like Christ.

I think perhaps very few religious groups do this, and I hold little respect for them. Their leaders seem more egotistical and hungering for press coverage. The real problem in the world is ego.

And every member of every religion has varying degrees of this. Ego clamors for the seats of power, so all great religions have suffered from the egotistical (self-centered) individuals running the show, from time to time. What most, if not all, religions seem to be after is that of awakening the sleeping spiritual component within us.

Salvation is all about awakening, whether it be through Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism or whatever. If a Homo sapiens body dies, usually the immortal spirit within remains asleep, and continuity of consciousness is broken by that mortal death. Only when the spirit awakens does consciousness continue unabated beyond mortal death.

This is the everlasting life of which the Nazarene teacher spoke. Both Buddhism and Christianity hint at the answer to your last question. With the reawakening accomplished yet by so few, one is saved from eternal suffering in this mortal realm -- saved from eternal, spiritual sleep.

Why, saved from those . . .. Fake churches, obviously!

Doomsday? Sounds like fear/scaremongering to me. I don't recall every meeting a person with integrity AND an agenda that intentionally pushed fear.

Fear - it's the enemy.. . Er, it's the canvas on which Stanangelo paints his Italian crap, or something.

Religion is becoming nothing more then a silly wish and this is bothering religions in general. By throwing doom and gloom at us, they are hoping to get more followers, hense more power and money.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
