Why do the Republicans want to extend payroll tax breaks and unemployment benefits for a year, but the left?

Because the left wants to argue about it again during the election year In 2 months the left will add even more crap to it like tax increases on the wealthy.

Because this will ensure Republicans that they can do what they want when it comes to giving tax breaks for the pipeline companies that they've been debating about. And also to the person who said to get rid of Social Security; social security isn't the problem, it's Medicare and Medicaid that are eating up the budget. This is thanks to our sky-high medical costs that politicians approve of (because of lobbyists) by allowing hospitals and pharmaceuticals to charge the insurance companies what they want, but on the flip side, want to pass bills to have a liability limit of how much a person can get when they sue for malpractice.

This whole payroll tax issue is a political maneuver. Republicans maneuvered the issue into a position where Democrats shouldn't be able to use it against them. It is a chess match, until November.

Everything they do is a joke any more. Reid has no intentions of negotiating anything that the House send him, Obama threatens to veto it no matter what. In the end Obama runs on a platform of a do nothing Congress and you can't blame him.

I think Obama wants it extended for the year, but the Republicans have stuck things into their bill that they know the Senate will not vote for. And so it continues until next Nov. That is why the Senate only voted for 2 months.

Youre confused. Sorry. I don't know why you want to particiapte when you have no clue as to whats happening.

Because they were compromising when they wrote that out remember, tea party was against cut for middle class.

Because the left just wants an issue to demagogue and they know full well this will be one.

12% of YOUR compensation gets sucked into Social Security in the form of "payroll taxes". Let's eliminate Social Security - the economy would rebound immediately.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
