Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?

If I pray for rain so my crops will grow and I can feed my family and my neighbor prays for drought so their laundry will dry on the line then answering one of those prayers will have to punish the other. A plaintiff and defendant go to court and each has prayed to God for good fortune. Which does God answer?

Answering one prayer will certainly disappoint the other and both may be good people. One neighbor prays for the postal mail to be right on time because the check they need to survive is in that days mail and a nearby neighbor prays for that days mail not to come because in the mail will be the final foreclosure notice from the bank... answering one prayer will hurt the other. Etc etc My opinion?

Every single thing that happens to any of us is a learning experience and/or a test of character. If good fortune comes our way we should be grateful and if we find ourselves in a bad circumstance then we should instead of thinking "Why me? " we should think "How can I learn from this?"

The bad things that happen to good and bad people are lessons.

This is a very popular question in Judeo/Christianity. The problem with this question is that it ignors one of the basic primciples of both the Jewish faith, and of Christianity. This question puts part of the owness of bad things happening in the world on God.

Instead of asking, "Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? ," one should ask, "Why do bad things happen? " In the Judeo/Christain belief, God HAS to allow bad thngs to happen.

If He/She/It did not, it would counteract free will (the greatest believed gift to humanity. When a person cries to God because they broke their arm and can't work, God might be answering, "Well than maybe you should not have tried to climb a ladder without someone holding it. " When a person cries to God for help from a hospital, God might be answering by saying, "Maybe if you had not smoked so much, you would not be where you are today."

When a person cries to God because their house was destroyed by a hurricane, God might be answering, "There have been hurricanes in that area since time began. Why would you build a house there? " If a child is struck by a drunk driver, many peolpe will put the owness on God as if God stood by and allowed this to happen to a poor child.

Instead, they should be realizing that the person who struck the child had made a poor decision through his free will in driving after drinking. The point of free will is that we are able to choose our own path in life. We are given sets of rules and structure to guide us, but it is up to us to follow.

If we do not follow these rules (or hell, just logic) bad things will usually happen to us, or someone else. Think of free will like the old swords from stories. We live by free will, and we die by free will.

Now, someone might wonder that if free will is going to cause so much pain, why do we have it? The answer is simple. In believing that God gave us free will as a gift, we should be looking at the aspect that we should do what we can to nurture this gift.

How do we nurture free will? Easy. When we find ourselves making porr decisions with our free will, learn from them.Do not make the same mistake again.

If we see someone else making a poor free will decision, do not follow their lead, learn from them. If you truely want to call yourself a member of the Judeo/Christian faith, you cannot ever put the owndess on God for bad things happening. Put the owness on yourself, or whoever is truely at fault through free will.

Whole books have been written on this subject by religious people who find themselves with quite a logical conundrum. How can god be all powerful and yet allow so much evil to occur? They usually wind up claiming god is inscrutable, or makes up for it in another, invisible world, or it's our own fault somehow.

But you don't need books full of strange, unprovable, or dubious arguments. The simplest, most direct answer is that there is no god.

In 1981, Rabbi Harold Kushner wrote a book just for you. _When bad things happen to good people_ I'm sure your library has it. Or check out the amazon link below.C.S.Lewis wrote _The problem of pain_ another good read.

There's a lot of answers and ideas that such a question can erect. 1. Maybe God's drunk.2. Perhaps he's The Joker.

3. Judicial corruption.4. If your referring to a Sun God, maybe somebody got too close to him.

5. Maybe to set examples, or disciplinary type of action in example of.6. It's a good possibility that an event of biblical proportions turned the good to bad. It's pretty tough to answer religious questions without somebody getting their panties in a bunch and screaming "he never got drunk" and taking far to serious offense to a statement made in light humor. But thats life.

You have to roll with the punches. Nobody likes a miserable sap. I know it sounds selfish, but your in this life for you.

Nobody else. Don't dwell on "why", think instead of how you can either learn from it, or prevent it, or change. Or find a really good lawyer!

God doesn't let bad things happen to good people. We have free will to make bad decisions as well as good ones. There are diseases in the world which affect people of all ages - if you believe what the bible says, there were always plagues which caused illness and death.

Accidents are just that - unplanned occurrences which cause injury and death. There are evil people in this world who hurt and sometimes kill their fellow man. People make bad choices with the free will they were born with.

There have always been natural disasters which have devastated the lives of many people. This is all a part of living on this planet, and it has always been that way. God is the higher power who helps us deal with all the good things in life, but especially the bad ones.

Whether or not you believe in God doesn't change reality, but faith in a power higher than ourselves can help us cope with all the trials and tribulations that we all deal with at one time or another.

Maybe God likes to laugh with the Angels. Is he a cruel God?

I have asked many religious leaders this question. It is one of only two theological questions for which I have received a unanimous response. I will share that response here.It is all part of s Plan and there are some things we are not meant to know.

God will reveal s Plan to us in .

Really, I have heard a lot of silly things but realistically, here is the answer. God knows that bad things have happened, but the situation or problem is necessary. If God fixed everything in your life whether good or not then you would have no need for free will, nor would you be anymore than a puppet.

Humans learn from the happenings in their lives.

I'm not a believer myself, but I am reminded of a preacher who said, "It's true that God sees the sparrow fall. But the sparrow still falls. " There is a song line, "s eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me."

In David Weber's Honorverse he writes about a planet with a religion that considers God to be "The Tester. " Maybe this is what it means when bad things happen to good people. A test of how the believer handles the worst.

I think life is life. Unfortunately, bad things happen. I have a friend that says there is a black clowd above her.

I think it is perspective. She focuses on all the bad and fails to see all the blessings Her husband battled cancer and she focuses that he had cancer instead of the fact that he is in remission. Is the glass half full or half empty?

Bad things may happen, getting through them makes us stronger and teaches us many lessons. We have to stop and see how many blessings we have in our life.

I think its because maybe there is no god and life's just not fair. When you believe that, you will not blame anyone for your misfortunes, learn from them to become stronger and wiser, and make your own luck! Bad things happen to good and bad people all the time...that's just part of life.My friends grandparents got killed by a drunk driver on their way to the church!

What da heck is that?! That's why I don't think there is a god. Life's just isn't fair thats all, so we just gotta make the best out of it!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
