Why is it that when both good and bad things happen to us, we tend to focus on the bad?

I think society has conditioned us to be overly modest. That is, it's taboo to say "I did a great job! " or "I love myself!"

People shun self-importance as if it is something bad, and confuse it with narcissism. We're an unhealthy society and we wallow in the bad things: we try to fix what's wrong before embracing what's right. Same reason why so many girls want the bad boy they can "fix" and "tame" instead of a non-dependent relationship with a wonderful guy who cares about them right off the bat.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
