It wouldn't be surprising to me if laptop prices did drop by as much as 10% in '09--due to the poor economy, companies are willing to have sales in order to move inventory. I bought my first laptop at around $700, and it's getting to the point of needing replacement. Both the power cord and battery are becoming problematic, so I can look at replacing them both for around $150 total, or just getting a new machine.
I'd probably look at getting a new laptop for about the same price I got my old one: $600-800 range. I've been impressed with HP / Compaq laptops in the past. Dell has fallen behind IMO, and they often take a very long time to ship.
I've thought about Macbooks in the past, but the cost is prohibitive and I'm not that huge a fan of Apple. I really don't see myself ever completely replacing my PC tower. Laptops are great for portability, but I enjoy the customizability a desktop affords.
Price isn't the driving force in laptop consumption for me. I'm driven by battery life, screen resolution, memory and weight since I travel a lot. Right now I have the MacBook air which is amazing in terms of screen size to weight ratio.
However, I've been looking at the $500 netbook category and I'm thinking of getting a Dell 10 since it's super small and sexy, plus you can hack it to run OS X! I think Netbooks are the high growth area for the future. Paying $300 to $500 for the small size and solid performance is just amazing.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
