Oops A slight whine is not so bad, maybe the clutch throw-out bearing is a bit worn. Not unusual in a 10 year old car. Or it could be an alternator bearing.

I would not worry too much about it. Next time you need a new clutch, remind them to check out the throw-out bearing while they're in there.

2 A worn throwout bearing would make it hard to get the car into gear. I'd need to know if it's in all gears or just first. It could be nothing at all, just normal transmission noise.
