After you've walked your dog outside, do you clean their paws? If so, how do you clean them?

My house has carpeting and I don't want my dog to ruin it so I end up cleaning my dog's paws everytime I walk him outside. I use baby wipes (I guess he is my baby). Wanted to know if other folks do this and if so what you do to clean your dogs paws?

Depends what she's been walking IN. Before I go for the walk, I get the doorway ready for our "reentry. " If it's just rain, I have a collection of old towels that are dog-use towels.

I use one to blot her paws (she's a hairy dog, so just wiping won't get off the water. ) Then I make sure I wipe her stomach (dogs get a lot of water on their stomachs, being so low to the ground) and her legs up to where they join her body. Sounds like a lot of work, but I can do it in a minute.

If we're walking in the snow and there's salt on the ground, I take her into the bathroom and fill the basin with warm water. Then I use an old washcloth to soak and wipe her paws, followed up by an old towel. Salt is just bad for dog's paws, and you don't want them licking it off if you don't wash it off for them.In stormy weather, I have a separate bag for "dog towels" in the hamper.

When I get enough, I run them through the washer in hot water, a little bleach and detergent. I dry them in the dryer, but with no fabric softener (just white vinegar in the rinse water; that softens them.) Fabric softener makes towels water resistant, and that's the last thing I want when I'm dryng off a hairy dog! Sources: Long experience with dogs!

Just a damp towel.....specifically saved for that purpose. When my baby gets her feet muddy, I take an old terry cloth towel that I've saved, dampen it, and wipe off her feet. When the towel is really dirty, I wash it in hot water with some Simple Green, and it comes out pretty clean.

I fold it up and leave it by the door until the next time we go out for a walk. I don’t clean her feet every time because we mostly walk on the sidewalk, but on those occasions where we get caught in a muddy or dirty situation, that’s what I use to clean her up.

I do! He's a puppy right now so I carry him to the sink and rinse them. Amazing the amount of dirt that comes off!

My parents have dogs who come in and out and their carpets are perpetually dirty and the bare floors as well. When we visit, my kids’ socks get real dirty. When we decided to get a puppy, I felt it was important that he clean his feet before coming in, just as we take off our shoes.

Right now it isn’t an issue because of the snow (we live in that snow belt of upstate NY), but once it melts I will get back into the habit of cleaning his feet at the sink. Once he gets bigger, it may be harder carry him - I like the baby wipes idea! And, by the way - cute dog!.

Yes and I do more I throw a towel down for him to walk on when he comes in the door and make him sit and then I wipe his paws. It get's pretty tiresome when the weather is yucky like some of us have had this year. If it's not bad weather, I just let him in.

I'm not too picky about that. He's pretty much a house dog.

Well, my intentions are good, but... When I moved in, I had every intention of keeping the place spotless, and that included no dirty paw prints. Unfortunately, I neglected to consult with my dogs and get their input. I had three at the time, including one very new to me retired sled dog who wasn't even sure inside was where she wanted to be at the time, let alone being grabbed every time she bounced in or out of the door.

That said, she was the easy one when it came to dealing with her feet cos sled dogs' feet are constantly handled. Fortunately, the back yard is huge and fenced AND they do their business in one of the far corners, lucky me, so most of the time by the time they mosey back to the deck and across it, dirty paws are a minor issue. Since then, I'm mellowed.

I do have it set up so that the dogs come in and out the back door, across a couple carpet runners. The floor isn't carpeted, but my old dog, who left me for the Rainbow Bridge in Sept. , was paranoid about walking on the bare floor, hence the runners. In other words, they were there more for security than as dirt catchers, tho' they serve that purpose, too.

There are also some throw rugs right inside the living room area that usually manage to capture anything left by the other rugs. Those were originally meant as dirty paw wipes. I've pretty well come to the conclusion that the carpet can be shampooed, so I don't bug the dogs much anymore unless there's some very visible reason to do so.

For the most part, the times I do stop them isn't even foot related, tho' that's obviously an issue. When they're outside and it's wet or snowing, I've had them come bouncing in simply drippinng with snow, snow which then melts all over everything if I'm not quick enough to snag them and at least manage a quick rub down with a towel. That's usually when I'll snag a foot and wipe it, too, as the wet prints are the worst.

My rug would probably wish I were more concerned about its well-being, but I figure I can replace the rug easier than I can replace the time I spend rubbing down doggie paws. Maybe I should just put 'em on the furz when I send 'em outside and take 'em off when they enter for laundering? .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
