Defining in it for themselves is like defining selfishness. I consider myself selfish when I get my wife flowers or take my grandkids outside to play at a park. I know doing those things make them feel good and some people would call me generous or loving for doing it but I call it selfish because it makes me feel better.

I could just as easily say that I do those things because I am in it for myself. So, my answer is that people do things for their own reasons, not ours, and they are in it for themselves. But that can be good as well as bad.

I think the answer is complicated. I think some people give because they want to receive--this usually ends in resentment. I think some people give after they have received--so they are giving from their overflow and have no expectations.

I find myself surrounded by pretty authentic folks--who would help me if I needed it and kick me in the butt if I was 'thinkin' I needed help when I didn't. We relie on each others honesty and it works. I'm sure if I look for situations where folks are selfish, I'd find it all day long.

Yet, I look for situations where people are giving and I do find that all day long. I'd rather look there.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
