Lenovo ThinkPad = Good, Lenovo...anything else = Bad The ThinkPads are awesome and still covered by IBM. Great quality. Warranty is good even if you open the laptop and mess stuff up.
Other Lenovos are cheap and made with...well, cheap parts and not covered by the same warranties as the ThinkPads .
I have a lenovo 3000 n100 It's about 1 year old and for the most part, a good machine. It integrated blue tooth and wifi and that's good. The buttons are well placed and the mouse pad has a lot of built in controls for quick navigation.
The only bad side the battery has failed and no longer takes a charge. I'm not sure if this is a big problem on new machines but beware.
Had one for work I used to have a Lenovo laptop. I like them a lot. Mind, though, that I had a ThinkPad.
I can't recommend ThinkPads enough, but I haven't really used any 3000 models for very long, so I'm less knowledgeable about them. Lenovo laptops are nicer than most Dell laptops I've used. They're business-like while still appearing reasonably attractive and cool.
The Y410 has some neat stuff with it, too, if you like techno toys. The face recognition security is a pretty neat toy. And 14" is huge for a notebook.
And everybody likes media readers and cameras and such. I'd say it's certainly not a bad choice. This is a pretty big laptop. It's got a "full size" keyboard and weighs over 5 pounds.
That's pretty lightweight for the size of its screen, but make sure you value screen and keyboard size over portability. I'd say that if you want a laptop this big, though, this is certainly not a bad choice. It really just comes down to whether it fits your personal needs. If you want to use this to play 3D games, it may or may not be sufficient.
The video card is okay, but not the best laptops have to offer. You'll still be able to play most games reasonably well it, though, especially the slightly dated ones.
Lenovo I bought a Lenovo laptop for my wife and she loves it. Even uses it in preference to her more powerful desktop machine. One caveat: Lenovos come with their own security programs.
First thing you should do is to uninstall them and install real security programs. I spent two days setting hers up when it suddenly decided that it required a password to boot. I never gave it one and even their customer service people couldn't tell me how to by-pass it.
I had to re-install from the CD and repeat all the work. This is apparently a common problem with Lenovo machines.
Go for it! I am using Lenovo thinkpads at work (working for IBM). I was using 2 T42d (one of the best notebooks I ever had).
Even trough it is much older than the one you want. 5 weeks with one, 12 months with the second one. I can not tell you any details about the type you re interested in, just general impressions from these products.
Very durable, hard to damage, easy to handle, the HW is more than sufficient for every day work and from time to time for some fun. I have no experience with service, but during the 12 months I was working on it, there was not any problem with the thinkpad. You might want to purchase additional battery, it is more heavy than the original one, but worth it when you need it.
Good luck with your new notebook. Sources: personal experience .
