Any new cool science fiction (not fantasy! ) books that you recommend? The latest sci-fi book I read was 1634 by Eric Flint.

Cool alternative time history series! Anyone recommend any books that have just come out. NOT fantasy, please, but good, hard-core sci-fi.

Off Armageddon Reef Ths is David Weber's best book by far. Earth and most humans are destroyed by aliens and a remnant settles a far planet to hide, living low-tech so as not to attract attention. Great characters and plot.

Well, I guess that depends on how you define new I will start with a list of some of my favorite, all-time sci-fi books or series. Not in any particular order (a few entries are a series rather than a novel) Foundation (the trilogy by Isaac Asimov) Dune (Frank Herbert) Stranger in a Strange Land (Heinlein) Neuromancer (William Gibbons) The Lensman Series (EE "Doc" Smith) Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card) The "Mars" Trilogy (Kim Stanley Robinson) Ringworld (Larry Niven) 1984 (George Orwell) Darwin's Radio (Greg Bear) The Grand Tour Books (Ben Bova) The Galactic Center Saga (Gregory Benford) The newer books on the list would include Darwin's Radio. An interesting look at what could happen if a long dormant virus is discovered that begins to change the children of earth. Is it evolution or armageddon?

The Mars trilogy by KS Robinson is an incredibly detailed and researched look at the exploration, colonization and terraforming of Mars. It also, peripherally, explores changes to the that take place on earth during the same period of time. Bova's Grand Tour books are an ongoing project of his as he shows the people of earth gradually moving out to explore and colonize the solar system.

Each book focuses on a specific planet or satellite. It also explore the chnages that the society and science of earth experiences as they reach out, or try to stop it! Neuromancer is the first book by William Gibson and pioneered the sub-genre of cyberpunk in the mid 80's.

(The movie Johnny Mnemonic was based on a short sory by Gibson) You could also try the Saga of the Seven Suns series by Kevin J. Anderson.5 of the expected 7 books have already been published, with book 6 due later this year.It is written, kind of, in the style of the older space operas. A huge, saga that follows mankind into the stars and deals with the things that happen when we begin to interact with the older races we encounter, as well as our overwhelming curiosity, arrogance and tenacity.

Hope these help you! Good Science Fiction The best science fiction is of course that of the masters. If you've forgotten any, here's a small, jotted list of some of the greats: Asimov, everything he wrote. Especially I, Robot and the Foundation books.

Heinlein, most of what he wrote. Especially The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Stranger in a Strange Land Arthur C. Clark, especially his short story collections.

Kurt Vonnegut, especially Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five For some slightly newer but most excellent hard science fiction, here's some great names: David Brin. Especially the second one, are most excellent. Kiln People is also quite good.

Neil Stephenson. Very nearly a grandmaster himself, Diamond Age and and Cryptonomicon are both quite good, and if you like his writing style, he also wrote some interesting historical novels that are also very scientific. Frederick Pohl.

Technically a SF grand master; mostly for Gateway and its related books. Can be a bit hard to find copies of the other books. Hope that's enough for the moment.

I can think of other good SF, but I can't think of any more GREAT SF at the moment.

Anything by the Father of Sci-Fi! Robert Heinlien wrote amazing Sci-Fi. S Lazarsa Long series has challenged many people look for a different way of life.

S character development was amazing. I would start out with Stranger in a Strange Land - and meet a creature that lives below the surface of the moon. 2 I am not a sci-fi fan, and I think this may be fanasy, too - but my adult son is raving about Gaiman's Eternals. But, the more I look at it, the more I would consider it a blending of the two genres...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
