I've worked with animals for years They are not 'psychic'. Their senses are better then ours for the most part, so they can smell changes in body chemistry and such. They are also very tuned in to what is going on around them.So while we may be engaged in conversation, the dog will notice if someone is becoming a little tense or afraid.

We do not always pick up on the clues that they do. They tend to have an excellent sense of timing, or time, when a pattern of some kind has been established. Our dogs, for instance, have formed what my husband calls the 'cold nose club.

' At a specific time in the morning we both get nudged awake. No earlier. No later. We can shoo them away, and they will obey, but we do get that wake up call every morning.

Animals like patterns and 'schedules,' and are very sensitive to changes in these. One cat we had years ago disapproved of our moving into a new house and there was no doubt about that when she pee'd in EVERY room of the house to show her displeasure. She had been litter box trained for years!

As far as predicting a death is concerned, it is not too mysterious for a cat, or a dog. The body chemistry is changing as the organs start to shut down. For them, that is an easily recognizable odor.

This minute changes preceding a seizure alert some dogs to their owner's condition and they will bark or otherwise indicate something is wrong. This is very valuable for those epileptics who have one of these animals. Some dogs can smell the body changes a cancer will make and have been known to 'sniff it out.

' No, it's not psychic. It is simply their ability to use the senses they have, often in coordination with the bonding that can take place with their owner.

Occam's razor This is one of those things where the simplest answer is almost always the right one. Rather than assuming a 6th sense, a psychic cat, it makes far more sense to presume a smart cat, with a good sense of smell. When the body and organs begin to shut down, there will be many physiological changes.

Perhaps ketones accumulate in the blood, and are then exhaled. The cat smells these products. Cats have memories.

Perhaps the cat was originally brought up in a house where its master passed away while holding the cat. So the cat now associates certain smells with its beloved past owner. Sources: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ockham_razor .

I can only talk about dogs. They read faces, and understand tones of voice. Their hearing and sense of smell is superior to ours which has been proven over and over when they sense danger before we do, bark at noises that we don’t hear, and recognize their owner by sight and their sense of smell.

They are also creatures of habit and take on the ritual of the household. I think this is what gives the impression that they may be psychic. I think they are just intuitive.

Each breed has distinctive qualities but they do differ in personality as well. It is an adjustment for both owner and dog to learn to live together. Like children, they respond to affection, habit and discipline.

They love unconditionally so it behooves an owner to be responsible in caring for them. Some breeds are more territorial than others, but we had a dog that was possessive about his bed, collar and food dish, and any effort to move them to clean the floor upset him. It was amusing.

He would step into his bed so you couldn’t move it easily. After a bath, we would shake the collar (with his name tag) and he would come running and sit so you could put it on. My father was the disciplinarian, my mother was the caretaker (fed him), and I was the one he would play with, getting on my knees with toys and throwing a ball that he would eagerly chase and bring back to me.

We gave him treats if he finished his dinner, and he soon realized that he could con all three of us into giving him treats independently. That stopped, of course, when we realized he was tricking us. They are so smart and wonderful, it always amazes me when people abuse them.

He’s gone now and when I think of him, it puts a smile on my face. Of course, it didn't hurt that he was handsome to look at; he was a brown poodle full of mischief. I watch Animal Planet a lot and rescue dogs are even more grateful to have a second chance, and it warms my heart.

I believe pets have a 'sixth sense'...a higher awareness... I don't know if it could be described as 'psychic' or not, though.... I had also read an article about a dog that lived in a 'retirement/nursing' home. He would lay outside the door of a patient who was near death. S predictions were extremely accurate.

I do love the thought that the cat in the article actually 'comforted' the patients during their final moments. Our Dalmatian, Spike alerted us to a 'silent heart attack' in progress. My hubby, Jack was sitting on the couch...not feeling 'up to par'.

He kept taking his blood pressure and it was extremely low. We just figured the machine wasn't working properly.... Spike, who is not a 'lap dog' at 95 pounds...did something totaly out of character...he sort of slithered up onto Jack's lap and laid his head right on his chest. I finally convinced Jack to 'get it checked out'...next thing we knew, he was in a helicopter heading for Pensacola for a by-pass... Our cats sense a storm coming long before the clouds arrive.

A change in atmospheric pressure? A higher sense of hearing? Animals are far more 'tuned in' than we give them credit for...ours know our routines...let us know when we're late...if we've forgotten to do something... Psychic?

I don't know about that...but they sure do keep us in line.

Keen sense. If you have a dog definitely a keen smell and hearing. If you have a cat a keen sense of hearing and smell too.

If you have a snake it is sensitive to heat and vibration. AND, if you have a spouse for a pet, well, that would be a different sensitivity :) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
