The truth is you need your sleep. In fact, if you don´t snooze, you lose! Sleeping is important for the body and mind, and skimping on hours will affect your mood, creativity, memory, productivity, energy level, ability to concentrate, metabolism, weight, immune system and overall mental and physical health.
On a the short term level this can mean that you’ll feel rundown but on a long term level, getting little sleep can actually increase risks of diabetes, heart disease and other serious health problems. If you can’t get your eight hours in at night due to a night-shift work schedule, getting eight hours during the day will still be effective. It will take a couple weeks for your body to adjust to the new sleep schedule but you will still be benefitting from your ZZzzs.
Sleeping at night is best because our bodies are used to slowing down as the day winds down and goes into night, and then rising naturally with the sun.
