Army National Guard to Active duty?

I've been active duty for 16 years and I have met a lot of people who transitioned to the guard...and never once have I met one who regretted it. It all depends on what you want from your military career. Retirement benefits may pay out later with the guard...and some guardsmen work the 1 weekend a month 2 weeks a year you hear about on the commercials...but some also work alongside active duty members and do as much if not more work than the active duty members.

Guard is better for staying in one place and deploying when convenient...active duty may be better if you want to see the world and aren't worried about being deployed when called upon. Just make sure you do your research, especially concerning retirement benefits, when making your decision and good luck!

Just FYI using the term "weekend warrior" for Guardsmen and Reservist is like calling black people the "N word" Especially for a force that has been continually deployed since 9-11 and has made up anywhere from 20-30% of all deployed forces. Second only to the active Army I retired after 26 years of active duty in the Army. The last 13 assigned to the Guard.

With 4 combat deployments since 9-11 You'd get an ear full from me if I heard you using that term. Especially coming from a kid that's done nothing for society other than turning oxygen into CO2 and food into poop.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
