Give me a metal gun. I have had both, the glock never impressed me in the least. I could actually observe wear as I used it.

While on the other hand, I have often shot 1500 shells a week for months on end and over many years through a Colt 1911 and never saw any wear whatsoever. As I said before, there are many, many 1911s from WW2 that have been beaten all there existence, and still eat any ammo you stick in them and work perfectly. That is over 65 years of dependable use, without issue.

Could anyone expect a plastic gun to last that long without repairs and still be as good as a 1911? We'll see, but I doubt it. Also observe the re-sale value of used quality 1911s compared to the Glock.

Either you like one or the other, but I am sold and convinced the 1911, and especially the Colt will always be tops in the service you get from it. That makes the 1911 a good purchase in my eyes, and does not need to have the durability displayed in these goofy scenarios others use. Just give them 65 years of real use and let's see.

The Colt and other 1911 could perform these ridiculous demos just the same. So again I say, give me my metal gun and I will and do trust my life to that. I have no problem with these new technologies.

But I reserve my opinion to those well proven first, then will wait and observe if the others are up tho that same standard they are replacing. The 1911 has set a VERY high standard to be bettered. Edit : Oh, and as Steel Rain said, the 1911 single action trigger is much better for me.

I am a match shooter, and so am used to good clean triggers, and have never gotten used to the heavy trigger pull of modern semi-autos. And that Glock trigger IS atrocious. Even when working in the single action mode after the first shot, it is terrible.

Edit 2 : Glocks feed hollow points better? Very simple, it takes me about 5 minutes to polish the feed ramp to a mirror finish in a Colt. Mine feed and fire anything I feed them, never a problem, or jamb.

My carry Colt 1911 has fired tens of thousands of rounds over the 13 years I have carried it without a single failure to fire, jamb, or malfunction. NOT A SINGLE FAILURE TO FIRE IN 13 YEARS. That is EXACTLY the reason I carry that Colt.

No glock owner here but I have S&W M&P pistols that compete directly with Glocks. Glocks are striker fired polymer pistols with high capacity compared to the single stack 1911's from Colt, S&W, Armscor and all the others. 1911's are single action hammer fired pistols that are all metal construction and have 7 or 8 round magazines.

Both are reliable, but the Glocks and other modern pistols out of the box feed hollow points much easier then some of the lower price 1911's. A $500 glocks, XD, M&P will be a much better gun then a $500 1911 over all. Now if you want to spend more and get a good 1911, say the S&W series or the Ruger series that are around a grand or a bit more... Then you have a beautiful pistol that shoots extremely well.

The reason the 1911 is still so popular is the trigger only drops the hammer, nothing else and that gives you a consistent and crisp trigger. Glocks and my S&W's triggers are not as good, that's why 1911's are still so popular in competition shooting. If this is your first gun ( You didn't say ) then I would recommend the Glock or it's competition.

1911's are a great weapon but not for the new shooter or nervous person. If your intending to carry it, ****** and locked is the recommended carry. It's intimidating as hell even for experienced shooters to carry for the first time, and you need to get a feel for that trigger if using it for defensive use.

With the hammer back and safety off, the 1911's I have shot have a very light trigger and if your nervous you can fire it not meaning to unless you train with it. My Taurus revolvers as the same way, hammer back I accidentally fire them anticipation the recoil sometimes, very annoying .357 rounds are not cheep to let loose unintentionally at the range ;) Either is a great gun, just depends on your level of shooting skill and what you want to use it for. Note - My co worker bought a Kimber Pro Carry II about a year ago now and put a hole in left leg from his knee down to his ankle.

He was being an idiot and toying with the gun and that light trigger went off when he didn't want it to. I totally blame him, but that's just an example of those light triggers.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
