Before my health problems we used to put up over 80,000 lights. We worked with a local fraternal group and they kept a Santa here and those who stopped to look around could get their picture taken with Santa for a fee and that money went to buy Christmas gifts for needy children in the community. All through the summer I would work on wooden cutout figures that we placed around the house and we even bought a building to set up our Department 56 Snow Village in so that people could walk through and see it.

We started putting up lights on the weekend after Labor Day in order to get it all done. Now our decorations are much more mundane but we still try to have a nice display. We have several of the air blown figures including one limited edition one that only 500 people have.My favorite one though is SpongeBob sitting on a big Christmas present.

There is always a Nativity scene and we have several wire frame light sculptures from a place close by called Christmas Done Bright. Our display is nothing like it used to be but it still slows down traffic. I’m going to put a picture in my avatar space of our house back in the good old days for just a little while so that you can see it.

We start with the usual Christmas Tree. Our tree is artificial, but I much prefer live trees, but I do not like to use them because it kills them and I love trees. We decorate our tree with different ornaments, some that I have made, some Hallmark, some from my boys' childhood and I put red ribbons on the tree and a red plaid tree skirt at the bottom.

I change each year as to how I decorate the house. I have a Teddy Bear from each year dating back to 1996 I believe, so I sit them on the steps. In the den, I decorate with angels and nativity scenes.In the living room where the tree is, I decorate with all different size Santas and I switch off from time to time.

I put Christmas soap dispensers everywhere, Christmas linens in the kitchen. Outside, we have deer that are lighted, 2 lighted trees, and an aluminum shiny tree by the road with balls that are made of shiny stuff so that when lights hit them, they sparkle. Oh and I hang the Christmas cards around the doorway into the Living room and my sons' pictures with Santa are taped to the piano for all to see their cute little selves.

Salmon Claus and Rudolph the Dead Nosed Reindeer We have a mounted salmon and white tailed deer that we dress up as Salmon Claus and Rudolph the Dead Nosed Reindeer. Looks like a present exploded in my house. I usually in years past just put up all my decorations all mish mash ...nothing matches its all relitively cheap dollar store junk....it litterally looks like santas bag exploded all over my house....or maybe an elf vomited tacky decorations everywhere. I love it.Me and the kids make tons of decorations out of colored paper and old x mas cards ....we make tons and tons of paper garlands and string them up eveywhere....We have even made huge decorations out of plywood to go outside my house all handmade and handpainted,...some not so great because I am not the artist I think I am.

We have tons and tons of crappy old ornaments...some from when I was kid...and we always put them all on the tree, no theme.....just a riot of color and lights. We seem to do well with colorful stuff...the tackier the better...then last year I decided I wanted a hawaiian thing goin on.( I am Hawaiian, from Hawaii go figure)so I made a ton of decorations for my tree that were"hawaiianish" to me ..palm trees, rainbows, sunglasses etc.... and I decided that even tho I told myself I would NEVER do a theme thing that this year it was gonna be all Hawaiian. So I have made a bunch more stuff and this year I will try it out.

I am not a boozshy kinda chick so it will be tacky and colorful just how I like it. I am painting a sign for my yard this week actually.....i got the plywood and some of the paint... its gonna say Mele Kalikimaka and have a ginormus hibiscus flower and have a spotlight on it. Im kinda sad for all my goofy decos going to waste....i made many thru the years....but I think it will be fun.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
