Yes Texas State Employees get several State holidays such as Texas Independence Day, Confederate Heros Day, LBJ's birthday, Emancipation Day and San Jacinto Day. We get the day off only if it falls on a work day. Offices have to remain open those days, so if you work, you can get another day off.

If a national holiday falls on a weekend, we lose the dayoff. For example, this year July 4th is on a Sunday. We do not get the 5th off, unlike Federal and many other employees.

We also do not get off on Columbus Day. I think it averages about two or three more actual days off than Federal employees.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
