Do I need cable or Direct TV to use a DVR or TiVo?

I have only an outdoor antenna, no cable or dish. I will be getting a new HDTV. I would like to be able to set a DVR to record programs while I am away for an evening or a few days.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
