Always pay off! As we use a credit card for most of our transactions (easy to keep track) we set up a direct debit to ensure that the credit card is cleared every month. Not paying it off would mean that the amount we pay in interest every month/year would be quite large .
As much as I can I try to pay as much as I can. I've cut up most of my cards and I just pay them off every month; I am keeping the Upromise card, since it feeds into my 529 fund. But in general, carrying that debt is so bad for your financial health.
Plus now, if you're late on ANY card, any of your other cards can raise your rate, which sucks. Keep looking at the statements and keep on top of things.
Pay that puppy off I pay that thing off faster than a sweet roll disappears at a weight watchers convention. As much as my heart bleeds to pay 18% intrest for things that I really don't need, I just cant do it.
We carry a balance unfortunately. A little over a year ago, we went through a really horrible period of time with my daughter medically. It took several months and several thousand dollars out of pocket to get a diagnosis and treatment for her.
After we wiped out our savings, we basically maxed out our two credit cards. We had doctor's bills, gas (at almost $3 a gallon) for out of town visits two to three days a week, sometimes hotel bills for overnight stays, meals, medications. We paid what we could out with cash, but the rest had to go on plastic. In addition, I couldn't teach summer school that summer because of what we were dealing with, so we had even less money than we normally would have.
I wouldn't change what we did because we had no choice, but now we face a few years of paying them off. In exchange for lowering our interest rate, we have frozen our accounts. I hate that bill every month, but my daughter is healthy, and that's all that really matters.
On our current plan, we will be out of debt in three years or less. I pay extra any time I can, so hopefully a little less than three years..
Carrying Debt I didn't understand what credit cards or how they were suppose to be used. Now that I know what they are really meant for, I can't afford to pay what I charged. I bought a lot of useless things and now I am being punished for it for not having any sense.
I decided to get a loan and pay off them. At least I am saving money by one easy payment and it isn't those non-profit coporations that promises to fix everything in one easy payment either.
