Do you remember your first Askville Best Answer? What question was it for? What was your reaction to getting BA?

I remember my Best Answer like it was yesterday! My Best Answer came after 17 submitted answers. I was here for a little over two months at that time, and I was not expecting it... I was shocked, and yes.. It really changed my style of writing as it surfaced.. I also learned a few lessons from an old Askviller, Spatzie_Lover.. my friend.. which she would be proud today, if she was here!

Today is a special day for me... I have been here over a year and I begged for Askviller of the Day many times.. I deserved it time after time, once I stayed up all night and finished many questions, and I had ten Best Answers in a row, and they announced three best answers.. boy, did that kill me! LOL Damn computers! I was shocked today, as I was with this Best Answer... When you work hard to answer the questions and you put a lot of time into it.. it means alot to be fairly judged.

I learned to be picky when chosing questions that I answer.. it all makes a difference who the judge is. I have 312 Best Answers to date. I have been working hard, and I enjoy this challenge!

Here is my first Best Answer... http://askville.amazon.com/true-love-top-words/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=1378668 I would have written it much differently today.. but, I guess it’s part of the process of maturing and feeling comfortable and being able to express yourself freely. There's also a different crowd today, that's much younger, mature, vibrant, supportive and cheerful. I feel every good writer, needs support and friendship.. and if they have that.. they can write anything, that they try to conquer.

If you put your heart into something.. most likely, there will be a great outcome! Sources: Nutty's philosophy on her positive changes at Askville! ~Nutty~'s Recommendations Mine & Yours - A Story About Sharing Amazon List Price: $9.99 Used from: $0.01 .

This one: askville.amazon.com/amp-car-stopped-powe... It was only the second answer I had given, and it related to two subjects I love to talk about: cars and electronics. All modesty aside - I got the BA ribbon because I deserved it. I know Honda electrical systems; I have installed several car audio systems myself, and from the description of the problem, I knew what the cause was likely to be.

I was dead on with my diagnosis, the asker solved his problem, and went away satisfied. All in all, this was a very gratifying experience for me, and it whetted my appetite for more. I also did some work on this answer.

I didn't need to do any research, but I tried to be thorough in my description of the circuit so the user could troubleshoot the problem more easily. There was nothing wrong with the other answers, but I think I worked that much harder for it. I was new to Askville then, I didn't know very much about answer ratings or experience points; all I really wanted to do was talk this guy through his problem.

If I learned anything from it, it's that a good answer is written with the asker in mind, not the gold or the points. Casting modesty aside once again, I am now Askville's topic leader in cars. I think it's because I continue to make an effort on my answers, explaining the systems as well as diagnosing the problem.

I don't always come away with the ribbon, but I'm always satisfied with my answers. I never just toss something off the top of my head and move on. I figure the asker deserves more from me than that.

It was a question about music. It didn't take a long answer but it was the best one. I can't say I learned that much about answers because I didn't understand what a best answer was for about a month.

I know that my taste in music is very good and this validated that and made me feel good. Wow! I had to look it up! It was one I answered on my first day, the sixth question I answered....and it was right after one of Paris Agent Orange had asked, "Why do celebrities risk their lives and the possibility of a DUI instead of hiring a driver?"

askville.amazon.com/celebrities-risk-liv... Unfortunately, as in most things I do, I didn’t read all the directions first. I didn’t know much about Askville, and how it worked, didn’t know about the "Best Answer" ribbons until I got one, and then I thought it was kind of neat. Compared to the other answers, I mine was pretty good.

But I can’t say it affected how I answer questions. I still do it the same way. I look for the ones I find interesting, and answer the ones that I feel I have something to say about.

I do always try to read over what I write, and imagine I’m reading it for the first time to see if it makes sense. --And to edit out unnecessary stuff, since I tend to be long-winded. But I have to admit that I do NOT understand the criteria for rating answers, let alone awarding best answers.

I know I’ve said this before, but sometimes my best answers seem to be underappreciated. I don’t think I’m alone here, because in some of the appeals I get, I see the same thing. The low scores on some really terrific answers baffle me.... And sometimes I’ll get a best answer when I really think somebody else’s was much better.

And, especially lately, it seems that many of the questions I’ve answered don’t get a best answer ribbon for anyone. Or maybe the "Best Answer" committee is running behind? I notice stuff, and I wonder.

But I guess not enough to do anything about it. I’m too lazy to appeal scores I get that I don’t agree with, or to even contemplate trying to figure out HOW the answers were rated. And, although the ribbons are nice, what I like best, what makes me REALLY feel good, is when people tell me that they liked my answer, that it helped them, or made them laugh. To me that’s the real point of all this.

1 Sharon, what a great question! Mine was a Rocketeer question. I was completely enamored with his sense of the whimsical when I first started participating on Askville (and still am)!

When I look back at that answer, it's not that good, and I had SO much to learn. I think I got BA because I really got into the spirit of the question.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
