Does freedom of speech really exist anymore in america? Dr. Laura has to go because she expressed a word that?

It's become a country largely based off of censorship, which is sad, really. America was supposed to be a country that, as long as you didn't encourage violence, you could say and believe pretty much anything you wanted. The problem is I have seen a lot of bullying and tyranny from both the liberal and conservative sides (especially conservatives), and everybody is losing a lot of freedom.

What I fear, though, is that though libertarianism sounds great in many aspects, will they sell out like the other two have? Even self-proclaimed "freedom lover" Glenn Beck is all about taking away certain civil rights and censoring those he personally disagrees with. (To me Beck is one of the biggest jokes out there when it comes to rights and freedom.) I'm not saying everyone is like this, but the problem is it's mainstream enough in society that it is becoming a big issue.

When it comes to the professor, I agree with you. Though religion is a PERSONAL matter and does not belong in law, to fire him is unethical. For him to just say homosexuality is immoral, then get fired, is a violation of his rights to practice free speech and religion of choice.

This is an example of the liberal side being bullies and tyrants. (Don't get me wrong though...conservatives do their fair share of being bullies and tyrants, as well.) I am in full support of gay rights, and always vote in favor of gay marriage, but to fire this man because of his religious beliefs is, though much smaller than Al-Qaeda style, still a form of terrorism - "do as we say, or be punished." I wouldn't be surprised if right here alone at least one liberal or conservative starts harassing me for saying what I just did to a question asking about loss of American freedom.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Notice that is says nothing about an Employer/Employee relationship.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
