Dog barks at other dogs while walking?

That is a great dog you have there, a real multi tasker .

Pull back on the leash suddenly. He'll catch on after a bit.

When another dog comes along, distract your dog, make him sit, keep his attention with a treat in front of his nose, when he is quiet and doesn't react when another dog passes he gets the treat. Keep doing that, he'll learn that other dogs are a good thing and gets him teats.

Thanks! She's very interested in treats so I'm looking forward to trying this tomorrow morning. Psachse 5 months ago .

You're welcome, another thing you can try is as soon as your dog see's another, and starts to get excited, turn in the opposite direct and walk briskly away. It's all basically just distracting him so he won't get to that barking stage .

Believe it or not, the behavior of your dog is YOUR responsibility to correct and control. If you don't, you're being irresponsible. I had that problem with my wife's Rottweiller when I tried to take it on our local Thompson Creek Bike trail because there are a multitude of little dogs being walked along there--so I simply don't any more take the Rottweiller there.

And as one who has had other people's uncontrolled dogs be a problem for himself, I can tell you that the answer is train your dog or don't take it on walks.

Funny. Our dog - a rescue dog - barks a lot at home, but is silent when we walk her. Almost like she is in "patrol mode."

Other dogs in homes bark at her but she just ignores them.

It's normal. Unless the barking becomes intolerable, you need to enroll your dog to a socialization class. Htm.

Yeah, thats what dogs do...duhAnywho, the only sure fire way to shut a yapping dog up is to kidnapp the bitch, take him across town, and deposit his barktard ass into a sewer drain.

My dog does the same thing and when he is outside... there are no such thing as treats..lol. He just gets tunnel vision. I want to enroll him in a class so he gets to learn how to greet dogs.

Right now I am trying to get him to sit and stay, but he just gets so excited.. its gonna take sum time I think. If the other dogs are really getting him going, we just go the other way. Better to be safe than sorry I think!

I don't think keeping him from a walk is wise like that other person said. Its a great treat for him to get out and exercise. I just think we have to be aware of the situation and keep on training.

If our dog's never socialize.. they will never learn.

I wanted to thank you for your warm note. My husband and I have always had "his and hers" dogs - in the past they've been golden retrievers, but this time I decided I wanted a chocolate lab. Coco is wonderful except for this situation when walking.

Before it closed, we would take both dogs to a local dog park, and off leash she/they got along fine with the other dogs. There's just something about being on a leash and seeing other dogs. My real fear is that someday I won't be able to keep holding on to the leash.

Truthfully, we may run into another dog once or twice a month, but I walk in fear every morning! No, we'll definately keep walking. I've learned a lot from the comments: Not to let her get into the "zone" is probably the main one, and I'm fortunate that she's so treat oriented.

Also I need to keep in mind that my attitude approaching another dog in this situation is key. I also want to mention that she follows commands well, except in this case, and as you say, she gets so excited and has tunnelvision. Thanks again, and take care!

My toy poodle always barks at men and other dogs. He won't stop. What can I do?

He adores my husband and my boys. " "Does your dog (or dogs) ride in the car with you? " "How do I get my dog to stop biting other dogs" "Do dogs really do this?" "Why do dogs......" "Who let the dogs out?

" "Can dogs get depressed? How can you tell if your dog is depressed?" "Who let the dogs out? " "Why do my dogs bark, growl, pull on there leashes, (go into attack mode) when they see some dogs when we are walking?

" "When you got your dog or dogs, did you know what you were looking for, or just stumble upon them?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
