Even if the 1st Amendment allows building a mosque near ground zero, is it worth stirring up this mess?

The Muslims who will be worshiping at the mosque may not be the ones who hijacked those planes and killed all those people ... However, they will be the ones singing out their praise to Allah five times each day. Five times each day, praising Allah. Isn't that what the terrorists did as they crashed those planes?

The building of that mosque at Ground Zero is more than a slap in the face. It's a vulgarity. You didn't lose anyone on 9/11, did you?

Well, some of us did ... If your emotions are still so raw, how can you support the praising of Allah 1825 times each year so near the spot where so many died?

I'm not american nor a resident of New York, but I see no problems with them building a mosque there. Would there be so much upraised arms if Christians were to build a church there, or McDonalds to build a restaurant there? No.

But because of the mere association that the Muslim religion has to what happened, people are hesitant to allow this, and think it's disrespectful. The people that wish to build this mosque aren't necessarily involved (if involved at all) with the attack, and probably had family members die themselves on that tragic day. Let them build their mosque...it's real estate property now (as bad as that last line sounds, it's true).

ETA: @ RedQueen - Christians have murdered and slaughtered a number of people throughout history in the name of their God and people still build churches and praise the name of this God. Is that so different than what you said in your answer?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
