I personally didn't agree with the mosque being built there because I found it too much of a risk. With it being a mosque you can't truthfully say there would be no extremist activity there. However, after I heard it on the news I researched the story and also found out it was a community center.
That being said I completely agree with it being there. It almost seems like the right thing to do. It gives people of different backgrounds the opportunity to experience Muslims in another light, other than what is portrayed on the news.
It also gives Muslims the opportunity to break down stereotypes and be safe while doing so. It's a great step toward ending religious discrimination, hence "interfaith". I can't help but support something like this.
I think most who don't support it are one of these different things. They are completely misguided by the media as to what is actually being built there, they are horribly discriminative towards this particular religion, or they feel that a tragedy justifies keeping an entire religion out of a city. Which the last is most ignorant.
I, myself, am a white christian and I understand that point. If that can be true I, along with everyone like me must move away. We did lie, cheat, murder, and steal just to call this beautiful place ours.
Remember?
There is nothing wrong with Muslims in the United States building a place of worship. That having been said, from a historical, political, and international viewpoint it does not seem appropriate for a Mosque to be built upon the site that Islamic extremists demolished the twin towers at in a terrorist attack. It's like saying "OK, you blew up our buildings.
You win. Go ahead and celebrate your victory by building an Islamic place of worship on the ground that used to be occupied by buildings that were built by Americans to support our economic system".
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
