As someone mentioned in another thread it seems like the anonymous questions more or less seem to be 30% actual questions, and the other 70% are to vague or crappy and filler questions. What we should all do here as members of Mahalo is report the bad questions to the staff and vote them uninteresting while answering the actual valid questions. What we should remember is if one of these filler questions get a Best Answer, Google will eventually index it, and that could be a black spot on the good, quality questions asked and answered here on Mahalo, and on mahalo itself.
We're not Yahoo Answers or Askville or 4chan. We are Mahalo and we should try to maintain quality over quantity.
When a "question" is not a question, or when there are not enough details to make it an answerable question, I report it as such. It is then up to Mahalo staff to decide if they want to do anything about it (e.g. Remove it). I suspect that if Mahalo staff is inundated with such reports and these reports are almost entirely due to anonymous questions, they will have to either ask us to stop reporting (not likely, as these reports help keep Mahalo Answers site quality up) or else they may come up with a better way to monitor or filter anonymous questions.
For example, if Mahalo requires a valid email address to post an anonymous question, then people may be less inclined to post stupid comments, hate-speech comments/questions, and/or unanswerable questions even if their member name or personal name is not directly posted with the question.
We ask that you please use the "Report" button to flag poor questions, we are working around the clock to ensure the quality of our Front Page, reporting questions will help us much.
There have been some questions that you could totally tell were only asked to entertain the anonymous asker, but it is a valid feature and it encourages people to ask questions that they might not otherwise ask.
Eh you guys gotta understand that A) not everyone is a scholar and B) not everyone visiting this site is from the USA. I understand, some questions plain old do NOT make sense - Ive seen a few myself. But "worthy" or "unworthy"... is that really for us to decide?
I mean if its a valid question, its a valid question. Shouldn't matter if its 4 words or not.
I hate it when companies have brain-farts like this. Someone wants something put in place quickly ( rush rush money money time is money rush rush ) And then it is so out of place, so rushed and dodgy you spend the next month or even years! Cleaning up the mess left behind.
Oh! Quick, another brain-fart, what if we added all the twitter users that used the word how, oh I know, lets just let anyone write something, no need for a security code to post, oh that's great idea, quick, quickly..... ....if you've ever worked on baseline database quality you will understand my comment. It can take years to clean something like this up EDIT - Mahalo is still inundated by old twitter questions from MAY, isn't this enough to show how much trouble Mahalo is making with anonymous questions?
Anon questions are here to stay, as staff members informed us. The choice to become a member or not is a free one. Mahalo is a free website therefore you can create an account or not.
You are not the only one who reported questions that are inappropriate so, welcome to Mahalo! What we need to keep in mind is not to abuse the report button. Also, the report button is not always a solution.
Vote the question as uninteresting and it that question receives 3 uninteresting votes will be gone. Allow the other members to have their opinion. I know that question: "who won in 2004?
". There was an answer there from buddawiggi .... Anyway, better then the report button is the vote system. So, again...Welcome to Mahalo!
I agree that some people are using the "anonymous" ability to post ridiculous comments, etc. But I've been just ignoring those since I don't have the time to spend on those. I just go on to the next interesting question, and, since my time is limited to spend here, I do not read the 25 cent questions. I have been fortunate to have a lot of "best answers" to the questions I've answered, and that has been better for me.
I do agree that the "anonymous" idea may not have been a good one and that it should be reviewed. It seems if someone has to put their name or screen name on a question, they tend to be much more serious about the whole issue.
Yes. I think perhaps someone should moderate those questions. Secret tweet (for instance) will not allow a tweet to go out unless several people deem it worthy.
On a site such as that, it makes sense and probably couldn't be done at Mahalo, but at least one person on the mahalo end might consider reading them and clicking "worthy" before letting the go out. They're kind of stuffing up the genuine questions.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
