Actually, my dad takes it and has not experienced extra heartburn My dad has been taking a product from GNC that contains glucosamine and SAM-e called Triflex. It has helped him sleep and relieved some pain he has had in his knee and his back. And my dad also has chronic heartburn problems, but he hasn't experienced any additional heartburn because of this.

Granted, he also takes Prilosec every day so it's probable that would negate the effects if they existed. Note that several sites do suggest that it can cause side effects like these:When taken by mouth, SAMe may cause stomach upset including gas, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and nausea. These symptoms are more common at high doses.

minddisorders.com/Py-Z/SAMe.htmlSo, if you're experiencing heartburn, I'd suggest either lowering your dose of SAM-e or adding a simple antacid to your regular medication. Tums would be my first choice but I'm not sure if the calcium in that would interfere with the absorption of SAM-e. It's certainly possible. So you may want to try Pepcid or Prilosec, both of which are very safe, or even better talk to your doctor to see if he can suggest something.

I suffered from acid reflux for years until I was given Nexium and my symptoms completely disappeared afterwards. Anyway, that's what I know about it from talking to my dad. I should also add that he stopped taking it for a while and ended up having trouble sleeping, so if you plan to stop SAM-e because your heartburn is significant you may want to taper off your dosage rather than stopping suddenly.

Good luck! Sources: My experience .
