How arrogant is man to believe that man is the only member of the animal kingdom on earth to?

I tend to agree, Dave Mathews, although I think a couple of your examples could be attributed to something other than conscience. Even so, I suspect, as people start to learn more and more what a lot of us have already witnessed with one kind of animal or another (and as those who work with animals and know far more about them than the average person, include me, knows about them), the world will eventually become horrified at the way animals have been treated throughout history, and right up to today. Keep speaking up on behalf of animals. In this world of people who see them as "nothing" or as "objects" or as "something that doesn't feel or know anything", far too few people do.

I have to agree with you on this one dave. People seem to think man is all powerful and wise but were slowly learning that genetics is part of all living things , so concience and understanding will go hand in hand .

I love animals, especially dogs. But I don't believe they can choose between right and wrong. They do things because they have been "programmed" certain way (either by inborn instinct or training).

We, humans, also have instinct and we can be programmed, but we have a unique ability: we can program ourselves by making choices, self-discipline, developing habits and finally - turning the habits into the character. No other creatures can do that.

Mankind is pretty arrogant indeed. It has long been my theory that animals are far more intelligent than we give them credit for.

Yes, you are right. The majority of us are arrogant to believe this. I feel animals have more integrity and is capable of love.

There are numerous examples of dogs showing unconditional love. Elephants are known to mourn the death of their young. Dolphins in the wild have been known to rescue humans from drowning.

We have made poor judgments on the capacity of these creatures. Once we thought humans are the only ones who could use tools. Recent discoveries show that we were wrong to make such conclusions.

God created everything (originally) perfect. Birds are wise and learn and even make songs. Dogs are all loving and obedient companions that love to learn what we teach them.

Shouldn't we be the same way toword God? Stop looking and start listening people! Whats so hard about that!

Almost as arrogant as we are to believe that in a basically infinite universe, in existance for billions of years and with billions upon billions of stars, each with their own unique solar systems, we could possibly be the only planet in all of that to have life. Or, to "wax philosophical"... to believe that our meager existance in all of this has any real signifigance what so ever in the grand scheme of things. Suffice it to say, we're pretty arrogant, lol.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
