We all know that balancing our checkbook helps us keep track of money so we don't overspend. The same principle applies to virtually any health habit. By tracking your health habits, you'll automatically increase your chances for a healthier life.
Writing down what you do will dramatically increase your chances of sticking with a diet or exercise program, or remembering to take your medication. Every time you exercise, write down what you did, the day you did it, and the amount of time you exercised. If you are dieting, simply jot down everything you eat in a notebook you keep with you.
If you are taking medications, keep a calendar to track the times you take it. The same applies to any health habit you are trying to change.
