You have your old color. It won't last forever but your original color will grow back in while the fake one fades.
To get your hair back to its natural color, you will have to re-dye your hair, however, this can be tricky depending on what your current color is. Usually, it is much more difficult to cover up red and blonde shades—if you place a brunette color over these, for example, red and gold is very likely to pull through, resulting in an unnatural hue. Although using drugstore hair dye is certainly the cheaper way to go, it is only less expensive if your hair comes out perfect the right time.
Consider seeing a professional colorist who can help guide the process. He or she can add in highlights or lowlights or a gentle demi-permanent color to slowly recover your natural hair color. The colorist will also know how best to keep your hair healthy during this process, as repeatedly using colorant chemicals on the hair can weaken it.
Bonus: if for some reason after you’ve had your hair professionally colored you are no longer happy with it, the colorist will often fix it for free or at a reduced rate.

I think it is silly, but that's just me. It does not seem that there is a way to restore your original hair color from a dye without re-dying your hair. I looked around and found nothing.
After all, the dye is absorbed into the hair strands and so is a permanent part of the color of that part of the hair.
It is very common that we don’t really get to like our hair after we get it dyed. It sometimes doesn’t come out as we had actually envisioned it to. But if it is absolutely essential, you can use a color remover or go to a hair dresser and get the job done. Usually using vitamin C powder with a mild shampoo does the trick too, but you may not be able to get rid of it in one go!
My natural hair color is medium brown. Last year, I went to my hair dresser and colored it red for a drastic change. Since then, I’ve used color out of a box and I’ve been back to my stylist once.
I am trying to get it back to brown, but every color that I use or my stylist uses goes back to red after a few weeks. I don’t want to keep coloring it every few weeks. She told me that the only way to get it back to its natural color is to bleach it and then color it.
Is this the only way besides letting it grow and cutting it? My hair is pretty long and I don’t want to cut it and it looks really bad letting it grow on its own. Is the bleaching and coloring something I can do on my own or should I go to a stylist?
Is there anything that will just take all of the color out and take it back to its natural color? What do you think?
