For one thing do not introduce them for the first time near your house, both Dogs would feel uncomfortable, the house and the yard was the older Dog`s territory first, and the younger Dog will know this. Let them meet in a park or a parking lot so they can get to know each other outside of any Dog`s territory. Then take them both on a long walk (Depending on how far the older Dog can walk), when you get to the house always supervise them and NEVER leave them alone unattended for a few days until the older Dog gets used to having another Dog in the house, and have the younger Dog on a leash when you`re outside for the first week.
The only way you can is putting the puppy near your older dog and see what happens, I doubt your older dog will like the puppy, he may even give the puppy a growl but the most important thing for you to know is that if your pup tries to play with your older dog, and she gives the pup a growl, don't worry about it, if your older dog doesn't like your puppy. Then it needs to learn its place, they will either be great friends, or your puppy will just have to learn to stay away.
Do it slowly and make sure to give equal attention. It will be hard, puppies are so cute! A puppies' energy is much more than a 10 yr olds.
The older dog may not like or want the puppy around at first. Its new and it will take a bit. Always be there if the dogs are together, & in a neutral area.
Try to have the puppy occupy a room your older one doesn't use much when you can't be around. One good thing is that the puppy will pick up on training your older dog has already been through. That can be a bad thing too.So another reason you want to have time with them when together.
Puppies don't know all the rules like sniffing dog's butts or even personal space. Your older dog may growl or snap. These are normal warning for dog- " If it happens, don't freak.
But also don't let it escalate. Its okay to correct either dog.In the beginning, it may be easier to train and feed them separately. I found these sites on-line (below).
I usually post sites I find (which are within the Yahoo Answers Terms of Agreement), but I was flagged by someone recently- so just for the record the link is not my personal one or contain any bad/ inappropriate material (as far as I have read). I do not promote them or gain anything from this- other than I thought it may help! So sorry for the disclaimer/ rant- I am just bewildered by how some people flag things.
Pup, meet you new plaything. Dog, meet your new torturer. Unless the big dog is poorly socialized or has a strong prey drive and you bought a dog that resembles prey, they should get along no problem.
Just introduce them I'm sure your old dog. Will be more then welcoming of the pup. They know how to act around pups even If.
Its been awhile. Ur old dog will probably be pretty excited he's got a friend. :).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
