Simply remove the valve cover gasket, take the old one off, clean the area well, and replace the gasket, tighten the cover evenly.(if your gasket is made of corque take care not to break the gasket.
Engines have many seals and gaskets that prevent oil from leaking out of the engine. The valve cover gasket is located on the top of the engine. It prevents oil from leaking onto the hot exhaust system, which could cause a fire.
Gaskets deteriorate over time, allowing engine oil to leak. An oil leak can not only cause a fire but also can drain your engine of oil, which can cause serious engine damage. To replace the valve cover gasket, the technician removes the bolts securing the valve cover to the engine.
S/He removes and cleans the valve cover, and then replaces it. Can a do-it-yourself guy handle replacing valve cover gaskets on this vehicle? ...under pan after an extended drive.
When I had oil changed, mechanic said it appeared to be the valve cover gasket. ...other though and more serious one is the oil accumulating from the valve cover. It appears the valve cover gaskets have completely failed.
My question is, how difficult an installation is a job like that? I have an oil leak and was told it is from the valve cover gasket located in the rear cover. What would be the approximate cost of repair.
How do I replace the rear valve cover gasket. I am not a service tech. Ijust do not have the money to have it done somewhere else.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
