I am using a vhs-to-dvd recorder, and when I use nero to burn the dvd, it takes up twice as much space?

I am using a panasonic vhs to dvd recorder to transfer my tapes to dvd. I record them onto a DVD-RAM disc so I can edit them and rearrange them.It fits on the RAM disc fine, but when I transfer it to my computer to piece together a playable dvd with Nero, it says its over 10GB even though it was only under 4GB on the hard drive. This is before I've done anything with the menu.

Compression of Format Video is compressed to fit a DVD, but when it is moved to a file format that can be used for editing on the computer, it may not be compressed as much. For editing, it is easier for a program to work with a file if any compression is done on a frame by frame basis. For a DVD, the compression can be done in such a way that only the changes between frames is stored. As an example, if you have a video with a black background and a small dot moving around, only the area around the dot would need to be saved in each from.

Such a video could be compressed significantly without any noticable loss. For editing you would need more information because of the posibility of splitting the video and moving frames around. If this was attempted on a video compressed to the level that a DVD is compressed, more of the file would have to be read rather than just one frame.

10GB is less than an hour's worth of video on a MiniDV, so Nero should have no problem compressing it back to 4GB when the DVD is created.

1 I think I followed that. I Just don't get that the actual video files are maybe 3.75GB but when I put them in a nero project at HQ it says its going to take up 10GB, unless I tell it to use "Fit-to-dvd" If the file on the computer is small enough, why won't nero put it small on the dvd? If I say fit-to-dvd, then instead of reencoding everything to a lesser quality, it leaves as much as it can at HQ, and reencodes just the last video or two to really bad quality. Is there some other program I can use that won't do this.

Im just confused why an already compressed file cant stay at the same compression, and just convert the files to VOB and add the menus that I create.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
