If drinking water has sat several months can it be used like distilled water?

Similar questions: DRINKING WATER SAT MONTHS DISTILLED.

Usually not. Distilled water has nearly everything that is not water removed from it; while bottled drinking water usually has minerals added to make it more palatable. Things that specify they must have distilled water usually develop problems from the impurities in drinking water.

Nope. Distilling is a prcess that removes minerals. Letting water sit for several months does not do anything to water.

As you're asking this question on the fish forum, I'm wondering if you're considering using distilled water in your tank. (?) PLEASE do not do so! As TurboB mentioned, distilling removes minerals -- minerals that your fish need to live.

The absolute best water I've found, if you want to go high end, is bottled water, as you don't risk particularly hard or soft town water. Depending on the size of your tank, it can get pretty expensive, though, so usually tap water with a dechlorinating liquid is just fine.
