Yes you need a router for any wireless connection.
Then it is a router by default and you don't need any other.
The above post is correct, a router is used to transmit via wifi. Comcast will provide you with a modem (I'd assume) which will have one Ethernet connection that is typically plugged into a router for wireless, but if you just want to use internet with a laptop you can plug the ethernet cable from your modem directly into your pc and not have to use a router.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
