If you were to move to New York, which city/area would you move?

Local > United States > New York City - NY.

Depends on you budget/status This depends on your budget and status ( single, married, kids ...etc )I can say this - Brooklyn is fantastic, and I think you can do it relatively on the cheap (or atleas less expensive)! In Wiliamsburg, Brooklyn it's a great time. Great bars, awesome food, fantastic music scene and the people could not have been friendler.

Like a college town really. Just a little more upscale. IF you can afford it, Manhattan is best.

As to the "like NJ" part of your question, the NYTimes just recently talked about this: "They Love (the New) Brooklyn". That is the place that is suburban yet close to all the great things about NY. nytimes.com/2008/06/15/realestate/15cov.... I grew up in North Jersey (Demarest -30 minutes to Manhattan) and Brooklyn is next best.

Now that I am in South Jersey, it is an hour and 40mins, but still not far. Now, the best time to move to the City? Yes, definitely summer.

Or fall, or winter or spring. Come to think of it, there would be no bad time to move to the City. If you are seriously considering the move, get yourself the NYTimes on Sunday and read the Real Estate section for a month or so and get a real feel for the smartest way to get yourself where you want to be.

1 I would love to be in a Manhattan penthouse - I saw one that looked exactly like it was in Central Park even to a bridge over the door into the apartment and grass growing on it. It was amazing. But if it were in my budget, I would probaly look in one of the closer neighborhoods.
