I'm going to learn Spanish using Rosetta Stone. Should I learn Latin American Spanish or Spain Spanish?

I'm going to learn Spanish using Rosetta Stone. Should I learn Latin American Spanish or Spain Spanish? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each, and which one makes the most sense to learn?

Depends where you want to be If you intend to get around southern USA or visit South/Central America, Latin American Spanish is best. For speaking with people from Europe, Spain Spanish is best. There aren't significant differences, so either one will work.

The main differences are in pronunciation of certain sounds (like s, j, y), slang terms, and the use of a plural, second-person (vosotros) is mainly only for Spain. Either one should work, but I think latin american spanish is more common around the usa.

Latin American In the U.S. you are more likely to come in contact with Latin American Spanish speakers. It's not that much different, just some idioms and a little pronunciation. If you want to read classic literature in Spanish, go for Spain Spanish (Castelleno--which I think I spelled wrong!).

Depends on where you live This question isn't a whole lot differnt than someone asking if they should learn American English or British English. It depends on where you live, where you'll ever be using it. If someone lives in North America, they should obviously learn American English.

If they live in Europe, they should probably learn British English. Same goes for you. If you're going to be interacting with spanics and Latin Americans, it makes more sense to learn Latin American Spanish.

If you're going to be interacting with Spaniards, it makes more sense to learn Spaniard Spanish. The differences aren't great. It's similar to the differences betwen American & British English.

Some grammar is different in each set, as is some vocabularly. For example, British use the plural form of a verb with collective nouns, Americans use the singular form. Similarly, Spaniards use the "vosotros" form of "you" referring to multiple familiar people, whereas Latin Americans use the "ustedes" form for both familiar and formal groups.

Americans say "elevator" where British say "lift". Spaniards say "grathias" where Latin Americans say "gracias" Basically, whichever you learn, you'll be able to converse with both groups of people. It just comes down to a matter of which "accent" you want to develop.

Consider the LA Spanish They are both nearly identical save but for pronounciation and certain minor words and phrases. Your question is like asking which English should I learn, American English or England English? They are both the same but American English is more popular.

Based on this I think you would be better off with LA Spanish, its more popular.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
