Adopting is definitely better than buying a dog from any petstore.. However it may not be better than buying a dog from a good breeder. It really depends what you want the dog for, how much your willingness and capability is to deal with a dog different than you expected. If you adopt a dog, you often don't really know what you get.
Unless the dog has been with a foster family who knows the dog well, you probably will get a mix which will be unpredictable in health and temperament. It might turn out perfect or it might not. If you buy a dog from a good breeder you have a pretty good chance to get what you expect, since the point of pure bred dogs is to make the dog's traits predictable.
In any case it is best if you have a dog which suits your lifestyle and temperament. Because no matter where you get the dog from, if you end up hating to deal with the dog, it's not going to be fun for you or the dog.
There has been a recent movement to adopt rather buy a pedigreed pup. While the motives are great . .
. . You don't know what you are getting.
Buy a pedigreed Labrador and there's a 99.99% chance that you're getting a friendly faithful family pet that will be safe around children and strangers. But a Pit Bull and you know you're getting somewith a hair trigger that could easily kill someone. Get a mutt and the results are unpredictable.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
